Ford’s first mass-produced car introduced in 1908 was the Ford Model T. Ford began producing the Model T on October 1, 1908, and it quickly became the company’s defining automobile.
The Model T was designed to be simple, durable, and relatively affordable. Its standardized parts and practical design helped Ford produce large numbers of cars for ordinary buyers rather than only wealthy customers.
Although the Model T was not Ford’s first automobile, it was the model that transformed the company and the automotive industry. Ford eventually offered it in several body styles, including touring cars, roadsters, and trucks.
The Model T is sometimes called the “Tin Lizzie.” Production continued until 1927, when Ford replaced it with the Model A. More than 15 million Model Ts were built, making it one of the most important cars in automotive history.
