What was the name of Disney Cruise Line’s first ship?

The story behind the answer

Disney Magic was Disney Cruise Line’s first ship.

The vessel entered service in 1998 and was built by Fincantieri at the Marghera shipyard in Italy. It was originally ordered for Disney Cruise Line, which was created as part of The Walt Disney Company’s expansion into vacation travel beyond theme parks and resorts.

Disney Magic’s design combines modern cruise-ship facilities with visual references to classic ocean liners. Art Deco and Art Nouveau influences appear throughout the ship, while family entertainment, children’s clubs, and character-themed activities distinguish it from a traditional liner.

Disney Wonder followed in 1999 as the second ship in the fleet. Later ships, including Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, introduced larger accommodations and new attractions, but Disney Magic remains the fleet’s founding vessel. It should not be confused with Disney Wonder, whose similar name reflects the company’s early naming pattern.
