What was the name of David Bowie's 1989 album recorded with the band Tin Machine?

The story behind the answer

David Bowie's 1989 album recorded with the band Tin Machine was titled Tin Machine.

Released on 22 May 1989, Tin Machine was the self-titled debut by the Anglo-American hard-rock group Bowie formed with guitarist Reeves Gabrels and brothers Tony Fox Sales and Hunt Sales. Kevin Armstrong also contributed as an additional guitarist. Bowie shared the spotlight with the band rather than presenting the record as a solo release.

The project grew from Bowie's dissatisfaction with the direction of his late-1980s career. After meeting Gabrels during the Glass Spider period, Bowie wanted a more collaborative and less image-driven musical setting. The group recorded much of the album live and in relatively few takes, producing a harder, more immediate sound than many of Bowie's contemporary solo records.

The title can cause confusion because Tin Machine was both the band name and the album title. It is also easy to mistake it for Tin Machine II, the group's second album, released in 1991. The debut initially performed strongly, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart, although its sales later declined quickly.
