What was the name of C.S. Lewis’s Cambridge college?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis’s Cambridge college was Magdalene College. He moved there in 1954 to become the first holder of Cambridge’s chair of Medieval and Renaissance English.

Lewis had previously spent nearly three decades at Magdalen College, Oxford. The nearly identical names of the two institutions are easily confused, but Magdalene College in Cambridge is spelled with a final “e.”

His Cambridge appointment recognized his scholarly work on medieval and Renaissance literature, including The Allegory of Love and English Literature in the Sixteenth Century. He continued writing popular Christian works and fiction while holding the academic chair.

Lewis remained at Magdalene College until his death in 1963. The Cambridge period was shorter than his Oxford career, but it placed him in a university environment especially suited to his expertise in older English literature.
