Answer
Till We Have Faces
C.S. Lewis’s 1956 novel inspired partly by the Cupid and Psyche myth is Till We Have Faces. Its full title is Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold.
The novel is narrated by Orual, a princess in the fictional kingdom of Glome. Lewis reworks the ancient story of Cupid and Psyche from the viewpoint of Psyche’s older sister, exploring jealousy, faith, self-knowledge, love, and the difficulty of seeing another person clearly.
Lewis considered this book one of his best works, and it differs substantially in tone from the Narnia stories. It is a psychological and philosophical retelling rather than a children’s fantasy. The title refers to the idea that human beings often hide behind emotional or moral masks until they become capable of honest self-understanding.
