What was the name of Blackbeard’s flagship, the captured French ship he refitted in 1717?

The story behind the answer

Blackbeard’s flagship was Queen Anne’s Revenge, a captured French ship that he refitted in 1717.

The vessel began life as the French slave ship La Concorde. Blackbeard and his crew seized it in November 1717, added guns, and renamed it in honor of Queen Anne, who had died in 1714. The ship became the most famous vessel associated with Blackbeard’s career.

Queen Anne’s Revenge participated in the blockade of Charleston, South Carolina, in 1718. Later that year, Blackbeard’s fleet ran aground near Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina, and the flagship was abandoned. Archaeologists identified the wreck off North Carolina in 1996, although the wreck’s identification has been studied through its artifacts and location.
