The maximum storage capacity offered by the original PlayStation 3 at launch was 60 GB.
Sony launched the PlayStation 3 in Japan in November 2006 with 20 GB and 60 GB hard-drive configurations. The 60 GB model was therefore the highest-capacity launch version, even though a cheaper 20 GB model was also available. In North America, both configurations launched in November 2006; Europe initially received the 60 GB model in March 2007.
The launch 60 GB PS3 was more than a storage upgrade. It included built-in Wi-Fi, flash-card readers, and broader backward compatibility with PlayStation 2 games than many later revisions. Its launch price in North America was $599, compared with $499 for the 20 GB model, making the larger model particularly expensive for its era.
Later PS3 revisions increased storage to 40 GB, 80 GB, 120 GB, 160 GB, 250 GB, and eventually 320 GB or more, depending on the model and market. Those later capacities can cause confusion, but they do not change the answer for the original launch hardware: 60 GB was the maximum.
