Money Tigers was the Japanese business-investment programme that inspired the British show Dragon's Den.
The Japanese format placed entrepreneurs before successful investors who could offer finance for a stake in their businesses. The British adaptation retained this central structure while replacing the Japanese investors and presentation style with a UK panel called the Dragons.
The format later spread internationally. In the United States, the related adaptation is known as Shark Tank, which is why viewers sometimes incorrectly identify that title as the original source of the British programme.
Although the names differ between countries, the central dramatic device remains consistent: a founder must defend a valuation and persuade an investor that the business can grow.
