The Japanese business-investment programme Money Tigers inspired the UK television series Dragon's Den.
Money Tigers was created in Japan as a format in which entrepreneurs presented business proposals to wealthy investors. The concept was later adapted for several countries, with investors questioning founders about their products, finances and requested deals.
The UK version retains the central idea but uses British terminology and a panel called the Dragons. It first appeared on BBC Two in 2005 and became one of the best-known business programmes on British television.
Money Tigers is sometimes confused with Shark Tank, the later American adaptation of the same broad international format. Shark Tank is not the Japanese original and is not the title used for the UK edition.
