What was the highest Eurovision final score under the pre-2022 points system?

The story behind the answer

Portugal’s Salvador Sobral set the pre-2022 Eurovision final scoring record with 758 points in 2017. He won in Kyiv with the Portuguese-language song “Amar pelos dois.”

The total came from the contest’s combined jury and public voting system. Sobral received exceptionally strong jury support and also ranked highly with viewers, giving Portugal its first Eurovision victory.

The record needs a date qualifier because Eurovision changed its scoring context in 2022. That year, Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra received 631 points under the newer arrangement, so raw totals from different eras are not always directly comparable. Sobral’s result remains the benchmark commonly cited for the pre-2022 scoring system.
