The first car badged as a Rolls-Royce was the 10 hp.

The model emerged from the agreement Charles Rolls and Henry Royce made on 23 December 1904. Henry Royce had developed the design from his earlier Royce 10, itself inspired by a second-hand Decauville. Royce’s version aimed to be quieter, smoother and more dependable than many contemporary cars. The 10 hp was produced by Royce Limited in Manchester and sold exclusively through Rolls’s dealership, C. S. Rolls & Co.

The 10 hp was unveiled at the Paris Salon in December 1904 alongside planned 15 hp and 20 hp models, plus an engine for the 30 hp. A common mix-up is to identify the 15 hp or 20 hp as the first Rolls-Royce because several early models appeared together. In fact, the 10 hp holds the distinction of being the first model badged with the Rolls-Royce name.
