The first Assassin's Creed video game was released in 2007.
Ubisoft launched Assassin's Creed for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2007, with a Windows version following in 2008. The game introduced the series' central conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templars, presented through a science-fiction framing device involving genetic memories.
Its main historical character is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, while Desmond Miles experiences Altaïr's memories in the modern day. The title grew from ideas originally associated with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time before becoming its own franchise. Later games moved the historical focus to Renaissance Italy, the Caribbean, revolutionary Paris, ancient Egypt, and other periods.
