What was the final score of the 2011 Walker Cup?

The story behind the answer

The 2011 Walker Cup finished with Great Britain and Ireland defeating the United States 14 to 12.

Played on September 10–11, 2011, at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in Scotland, the match was the 43rd Walker Cup. The biennial contest brings together leading amateur golfers from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland. Unlike a professional tournament, it is a team match made up of foursomes, four-ball, and singles matches.

The result gave Great Britain and Ireland its first Walker Cup victory since 2003. The team included future major champions and prominent professionals such as Jordan Spieth, who played for the United States, and Tommy Fleetwood, who represented Great Britain and Ireland. GB&I’s Paul Cutler and Rhys Pugh were unbeaten during the contest.

The Walker Cup is named after George Herbert Walker, a former president of the United States Golf Association and grandfather of U.S. president George H. W. Bush. Because the event awards individual match points rather than tournament strokes, its final score is reported as a team total: 14–12.
