Each side of the Great Pyramid of Giza’s original square base measured approximately 230 metres.
The monument’s base was carefully laid out on a nearly level platform, with only small differences between the four sides. Modern measurements commonly give an original side length of about 230.3 metres, or roughly 755 feet. Erosion, stone removal, and measurement methods account for small variations in published figures.
The pyramid was built for Pharaoh Khufu during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty. Its original smooth limestone casing made the exterior more reflective and regular than the stepped appearance visible today. The surviving core still gives the structure its massive scale, even though the outer casing and pyramidion are largely gone.
The base length is sometimes confused with the pyramid’s original height, which was approximately 146.6 metres. The base dimension also differs from the perimeter: multiplying one side by four gives a perimeter of about 921 metres.
