Which ancient kingdom included Halicarnassus, home of the Mausoleum?

The story behind the answer

Caria included Halicarnassus, home of the Mausoleum among the Seven Wonders.

Caria was an ancient region in southwestern Anatolia, roughly corresponding to part of modern southwestern Turkey. Halicarnassus was its prominent coastal capital and the seat of Mausolus, a ruler who governed Caria under the Persian Empire while maintaining strong Greek cultural connections.

The Mausoleum reflected that mixed setting. Its overall design was Greek in many features, but its royal function and sculptural program also expressed the traditions of an Anatolian dynasty. The building became famous throughout the Mediterranean world.

The site is now associated with Bodrum in Turkey. Medieval earthquakes reduced the monument to ruins, and surviving architectural pieces were incorporated into other buildings. The name of the region is less familiar than the name of the tomb, which is why the two are often confused.
