Which of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World was completed first?
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza was completed first among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Built for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, the Great Pyramid was completed during the 26th century BC, probably around 2560 BC. This places it roughly two thousand years before the other traditional wonders, most of which were constructed between the sixth and third centuries BC.
The pyramid formed the centerpiece of Khufu’s funerary complex at Giza. Its original polished limestone casing made the monument appear smoother and brighter than the weathered structure visible today. The surviving core remains the largest of the three major pyramids at Giza.
The Great Pyramid is also the only member of the traditional list that remains substantially intact. “Oldest” refers to the date of completion, while “longest surviving” refers to its survival as a standing monument; these are related but distinct facts.
