What was Nikola Tesla's middle name?

The story behind the answer

Nikola Tesla had no recorded middle name. His canonical name is simply Nikola Tesla, so “None” is the fairest answer to this quiz question.

Tesla was born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, then part of the Austrian Empire. His father was Milutin Tesla, a Serbian Orthodox priest, and his mother was Georgina-Đuka Mandić. Historical biographies and standard reference works identify him as Nikola Tesla rather than assigning him a middle name.

The names Jovan, Petar, and Mihajlo are plausible Serbian names, but they were not Tesla’s middle name. Confusion can also arise because naming customs in the Balkans, transliteration between Serbian and English, and changing political borders can make historical names appear in different forms. Tesla himself later became a naturalized American citizen, but his personal name remained Nikola Tesla.

He is best known for his work on alternating-current power systems, induction motors, wireless technology, and radio control.
