Speedee was McDonald's original logo character before the Golden Arches became dominant.
Speedee was a chef-like figure used in McDonald's early branding. The character represented the Speedee Service System, the brothers' method for preparing a limited menu quickly and consistently. The name connected the mascot to the restaurant's emphasis on fast service.
McDonald's gradually replaced Speedee with the Golden Arches as the arches became more distinctive and adaptable across signs, packaging, and advertising. Speedee is therefore part of the company's early identity, not the later McDonaldland character lineup. The character is also sometimes confused with Ronald McDonald, who arrived in the 1960s.
