Speedee was McDonald's first widely used character logo, showing a speedy chef. The character appeared in the 1948 McDonald's logo after the restaurant shifted toward a fast-service “Speedee Service System.”
Speedee's name emphasized quick preparation and service, which were central to the McDonald brothers' operating model. The logo commonly depicted a chef-like figure with a hamburger-shaped head and a sign or motion cue suggesting speed.
Ronald McDonald later became the dominant mascot, while the Golden Arches became the primary corporate symbol. Speedee therefore remains important in branding history even though modern customers rarely encounter the character outside historical signage and anniversary materials.
