What was J.K. Rowling’s first published Harry Potter book called in its original UK title?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s first published Harry Potter book was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Bloomsbury published the novel in the United Kingdom on 26 June 1997. It follows Harry’s discovery that he is a wizard and his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the United States, Scholastic changed the title to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The story is the same, but “Sorcerer’s Stone” became the familiar title for many American readers and viewers.

The novel began a seven-book series written by Rowling. Its sequels were published between 1998 and 2007, with each book following another stage of Harry’s education and conflict with Voldemort.
