What was Google Workspace called before its 2020 rebranding?

The story behind the answer

Google Workspace was called G Suite before its 2020 rebranding.

Google announced the Google Workspace name in October 2020 for its collection of productivity and collaboration tools. The suite included Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, and other services used by organizations and individuals.

Before G Suite, Google marketed the business-oriented collection as Google Apps. The G Suite name had been introduced in 2016, replacing Google Apps for Work and related editions. The 2020 change emphasized integrated collaboration rather than a collection of separate applications.

Google Workspace is not the same as Google One. Google One is a consumer subscription offering additional storage and benefits across Google services. Google Workspace refers primarily to productivity, communication, administration, and collaboration services, especially in organizational settings.
