What was Elton John's birth name?

Elton John's birth name was Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

He was born on 25 March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England, and was known as Reginald Dwight during his childhood. He later adopted the professional name Elton John, combining “Elton” from saxophonist Elton Dean with “John” from singer Long John Baldry.

The name change became legally official in 1972, when he also added the middle name Hercules. “Hercules” was a reference to the horse in the British sitcom Steptoe and Son, not to the figure from Greek mythology. This is why biographies may describe him as Reginald Dwight early in his life and Elton Hercules John in later legal records.
