Answer
Fellow and tutor in English
From 1925, C.S. Lewis was a fellow and tutor in English at Magdalen College, Oxford.
Lewis was elected to a fellowship at Magdalen College in 1925 and remained there until 1954. His duties included teaching English and conducting tutorials, while his scholarly interests ranged across medieval and Renaissance literature, language, and literary history.
His Oxford career formed the setting for much of his intellectual and literary life. He became closely associated with the Inklings, an informal discussion group that included J.R.R. Tolkien and met in Oxford venues such as The Eagle and Child pub.
This post should not be confused with Lewis’s later academic appointment at Cambridge University. In 1954 he became the first holder of the chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Magdalene College, Cambridge, leaving Oxford after nearly three decades at Magdalen College.
