Answer
Till We Have Faces
Till We Have Faces was C.S. Lewis’s last novel, published in 1956.
The book retells the ancient myth of Cupid and Psyche through the voice of Orual, a princess of Glome. Rather than presenting the story as a simple fairy tale, Lewis explores jealousy, worship, self-knowledge, and the difficulty of seeing other people clearly. Its title comes from the idea that human beings must confront themselves honestly before they can bring genuine complaints or prayers before the gods.
Till We Have Faces was a departure from the children’s fantasy of Narnia and from the planetary adventure of Lewis’s Space Trilogy. It was also his final completed novel. Lewis wrote it with help from his relationship with Joy Davidman, whom he married in 1956. The novel is often regarded as one of his most psychologically complex works.
