What was C.S. Lewis's full first name, including his middle name?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis's full name was Clive Staples Lewis.

He was born Clive Staples Lewis in Belfast, Ireland, on 29 November 1898. The initials “C.S.” became the name by which he was known as a scholar, novelist, essayist, and Christian apologist.

Lewis disliked the name Clive as a child and was known in his family as “Jack,” a nickname connected with his childhood dog Jacksie. That nickname remained with him throughout his life, so biographies often call him Jack Lewis even though his legal first name was Clive.

The middle name Staples came from his mother’s family. His older brother was Warren Hamilton Lewis, who also became a writer and historian. C.S. Lewis died in Oxford on 22 November 1963, shortly before his sixty-fifth birthday.
