What was C.S. Lewis’s final published fiction novel?
Answer
Till We Have Faces
Answer
Till We Have Faces
Till We Have Faces was C.S. Lewis’s final published fiction novel.
The novel appeared in 1956 and was Lewis’s last work of fiction published during his lifetime. It retells the story of Cupid and Psyche through the voice of Orual, a ruler whose understanding of love, jealousy, and responsibility changes as the narrative unfolds.
Lewis had already written the seven Chronicles of Narnia novels and the three books of the Space Trilogy. Till We Have Faces differs from both series: it is an adult literary novel, has an ancient setting, and does not continue a previously established fictional world.
Readers sometimes mistake The Last Battle for Lewis’s final novel because it is the concluding Narnia book. However, The Last Battle was published in 1956 before Till We Have Faces, which appeared later that year.
