What was C.S. Lewis’s final completed Narnia novel?

The story behind the answer

The Last Battle was C.S. Lewis’s final completed Narnia novel.

Published in 1956, The Last Battle concludes the Chronicles of Narnia and depicts the final crisis of the fictional world. Its central characters include King Tirian, the ape Shift, and a donkey named Puzzle who is disguised as Aslan. The story explores deception, loyalty, judgment, and the end of Narnia.

The novel won the Carnegie Medal in 1957, a major British children’s literature prize. The Last Battle was not the first Narnia book published; that distinction belongs to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was, however, the final volume Lewis completed for the series.
