Answer
Fellow and tutor
C.S. Lewis served as a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College, Oxford.
Lewis was elected to a fellowship at Magdalen in 1925 and remained there for decades. His teaching and research focused chiefly on English literature, and he became known among students and colleagues for wide-ranging knowledge of medieval and Renaissance writing.
At Magdalen, Lewis also formed the literary discussion group known as the Inklings. The group met regularly in Oxford, with members including J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams at different times. Their conversations connected scholarship, myth, imaginative literature, and Christian belief.
Lewis left Oxford for Cambridge in 1954, when he became the first holder of the newly established chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Magdalene College, Cambridge. Thus, his Oxford role was not a theology professorship, even though many of his most famous books discuss Christianity.
