C.S. Lewis taught English literature at Magdalen College, Oxford.
Lewis became a fellow and tutor in English at Magdalen College in 1925 and remained there until 1954. His teaching covered English language and literature, and he developed a strong reputation as a demanding but influential tutor.
Before holding the Oxford English post, Lewis studied at University College, Oxford, and taught philosophy and English at Oxford colleges. His academic interests included medieval and Renaissance writing, Christian literature, allegory, and the history of English prose and poetry.
In 1954, Lewis moved to Cambridge University after being appointed the first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance English. His best-known academic book, The Allegory of Love, examines allegorical approaches to love in medieval literature and was published in 1936.
