What was Blackbeard’s flagship Queen Anne’s Revenge originally called before he captured it?

The story behind the answer

Blackbeard’s flagship Queen Anne’s Revenge was originally called La Concorde.

La Concorde was a French slave ship that Blackbeard captured in the Caribbean in 1717. He refitted the vessel, added guns, and used it as the principal ship of his fleet during the height of his career.

The name Queen Anne’s Revenge referred to the recently ended War of the Spanish Succession, fought partly during the reign of Queen Anne of Great Britain. Blackbeard’s other vessels included the smaller sloop Adventure, which later became important in accounts of his final battle.

The wreck of Queen Anne’s Revenge was discovered near Beaufort, North Carolina, in 1996. Archaeologists have recovered anchors, cannon, medical equipment, and other objects, although identifying individual artifacts remains a continuing research task.
