What type of game is Pokémon Pokopia’s first expansion, Bubbly Basin?
Answer
Paid expansion pass content
Bubbly Basin is paid expansion-pass content for Pokémon Pokopia.
It is the first part of a planned three-part expansion pass. Bubbly Basin released in August 2026, adding new content to the life-simulation and sandbox game after the original March 2026 launch.
The expansion pass is separate from the game’s free update. The free update and the paid pass were announced together, but they are not the same product. The pass is structured as downloadable content delivered in multiple parts, with the remaining two parts scheduled for late 2026 and 2027 respectively.
Bubbly Basin can be confused with a full sequel because it introduces additional areas and features. It is not a standalone game, a mobile application, or merely a patch. It belongs to the paid expansion pass for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Pokémon Pokopia.
