What time zone is used in Dubai, United Arab Emirates?

The story behind the answer

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, uses Gulf Standard Time (GST), which is UTC+04:00. The UAE keeps this time nationwide, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and does not change its clocks for daylight saving time.

Gulf Standard Time is also used by Oman, so Dubai and Muscat share the same clock time. The name can cause confusion because “Arabia Standard Time” is used for UTC+03:00 in countries such as Saudi Arabia, while Gulf Standard Time is one hour ahead.

The UAE’s time is four hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time and Greenwich Mean Time. Dubai’s IANA time-zone identifier is Asia/Dubai, a computer-readable label used by operating systems, calendars and international scheduling software.

Travellers sometimes expect Dubai to move forward in summer because many European and North American cities observe daylight saving time. Dubai does not, so its UTC offset remains +04:00 throughout the year. Nearby Pakistan is UTC+05:00, while Iran’s standard time is UTC+03:30.
