What team drafted Rasmus Dahlin in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft?
Answer
Buffalo Sabres
Answer
Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres drafted Rasmus Dahlin first overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
The draft was held June 22–23, 2018, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Buffalo used the first selection on Dahlin, a Swedish defenseman from Frölunda, after he had become widely regarded as the top prospect in the class.
Dahlin was only 18 when selected and had already played professionally in the Swedish Hockey League. He became the second Sweden-born player chosen first overall in an NHL Draft, following Mats Sundin, who was selected by the Quebec Nordiques in 1989.
The next two selections were Andrei Svechnikov by the Carolina Hurricanes and Jesperi Kotkaniemi by the Montreal Canadiens. Dahlin quickly became central to Buffalo’s rebuilding plans and later became the Sabres’ captain. The draft selection is sometimes confused with his Swedish club, Frölunda, but Frölunda developed him; Buffalo was the NHL team that drafted him.
