Dragon's Den investor Theo Paphitis owned and expanded the stationery retailer Ryman.
Ryman is a British retailer specialising in stationery, office supplies, cards and related products. Paphitis acquired the company in 1995 and developed it as part of his retail business interests, making the chain a central part of his public business identity before and during his time as a Dragon.
Paphitis joined the BBC programme as an investor in 2005 and became known for his direct questioning and retail experience. Ryman is sometimes mixed up with other British stationery chains because the sector has included several familiar high-street brands, but Ryman is the company specifically associated with Paphitis.
His wider business portfolio has included other retail and consumer ventures, yet Ryman remains the clearest answer when his best-known stationery business is requested.
