What species is the character Worf?

Worf is a Klingon character in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Worf, son of Mogh, was born on Qo'noS, the Klingon homeworld, in 2340. After his parents died in the Romulan attack on the Khitomer colony, he was adopted and raised by the human Rozhenko family. That upbringing gave him a distinctive place between Klingon and human cultures.

Although Worf grew up among humans, he strongly embraced Klingon traditions, including the importance of honor, family, ritual, and combat. He joined Starfleet and became its first Klingon officer, eventually serving as the Enterprise-D's security chief and tactical officer.

A common mix-up is confusing Worf's species with his Starfleet identity. He is a Klingon serving the Federation, not a Vulcan, Cardassian, or Romulan. His story later continues in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Picard.
