Released by RSO Records on November 15, 1977, the double album accompanied the film starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, a Brooklyn teenager whose weekend identity revolves around disco dancing. The Bee Gees supplied much of its signature material, including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love,” while Yvonne Elliman performed “If I Can’t Have You.”

The album became far more than a movie tie-in. It spent 24 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the United States, remained on the Billboard album chart for 120 weeks, and has been credited with worldwide sales exceeding 40 million copies.
