What roof style did Lamborghini first use on the Silhouette?
Answer
Targa top
Answer
Targa top
The Lamborghini Silhouette was the first Lamborghini to use a targa top. Its removable roof panel opened the cabin to the sky while a fixed structural bar remained behind the occupants, distinguishing it from both a conventional coupe and a fully open convertible.
Bertone developed the Silhouette from the Lamborghini Urraco. The new model received sharper, more angular styling, a two-seat cabin and a roof arrangement intended to make the compact V8 sports car more appealing in markets where targa-style cars were popular. Lamborghini officially presented it at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show.
The Silhouette’s roof is sometimes loosely called a convertible roof, but “targa top” is the more accurate term because the center panel could be removed while the surrounding structure stayed in place. The model was built in very small numbers and later evolved into the Lamborghini Jalpa, which retained the basic mid-engine V8 concept.
