What puzzle-platform game is the sequel to Portal?

The story behind the answer

What puzzle-platform game is the sequel to Portal? Portal 2 is the puzzle-platform sequel to Portal.

Released in 2011, Portal 2 expands the original game’s portal-based puzzles into a much larger adventure. Players again use the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device to connect surfaces, redirect movement and solve test chambers. The sequel introduces new mechanics including excursion funnels, thermal discouragement beams, hard-light bridges, aerial faith plates and paint-like gels.

The single-player campaign returns Chell to the deteriorating Aperture Science facility, where she encounters GLaDOS and the personality core Wheatley. Portal 2 also adds a separate cooperative campaign starring the robots Atlas and P-body. That mode requires two players to coordinate portals and other devices, rather than simply taking turns in the single-player story.

Portal 2 is sometimes confused with other Valve sequels such as Half-Life 2 or Team Fortress 2, but those games belong to different series. Portal 2 is the direct numbered follow-up to the original Portal and keeps its first-person puzzle-platform format.
