What phrase was famously yelled by a player who charged into battle prematurely in a World of Warcraft video?

The story behind the answer

The phrase famously yelled by the premature World of Warcraft player was “Leeroy Jenkins.”

The phrase comes from a 2005 video featuring the World of Warcraft guild Pals for Life. While the group discussed a careful strategy for fighting through the Rookery in Upper Blackrock Spire, player Leeroy was away preparing food. He returned without hearing the plan, shouted his own name as a battle cry, and charged into combat.

The impulsive attack ruined the group’s preparation and became an early viral gaming meme. The video was originally posted to Warcraftmovies on May 11, 2005, before spreading through forums and other websites. Leeroy’s later response, “At least I have chicken!”, also became widely quoted.

The name is not the name of a spell, class, or battle command. Leeroy Jenkins is the player character’s name, and the expression now describes someone who rushes into a risky situation without planning. Blizzard later incorporated the character into World of Warcraft and Hearthstone.
