What phrase appeared on McDonald's packaging and signs during its “Golden Arches” advertising era?

The story behind the answer

“Look for the Golden Arches” was a phrase used in McDonald's Golden Arches advertising era.

The wording turned the restaurant sign into a navigation aid and a brand promise. Customers could look for the distinctive yellow arches when traveling, making the logo useful as well as memorable. This was especially valuable as automobile travel and roadside restaurant culture expanded.

The phrase is not the same as the later slogan “You Deserve a Break Today,” nor does it describe a menu item. Its purpose was to direct attention toward McDonald's visual symbol and encourage recognition from a distance.

McDonald's branding repeatedly connected the arches with travel, convenience, and familiarity. Although later signs became more varied and some restaurants adopted subdued designs, the idea that customers can identify McDonald's through its arches remains central to the company's visual history.
