What part does Robert Pattinson play in the 2008 movie "Twilight"?

Robert Pattinson plays Edward Cullen in the 2008 movie Twilight. Edward is the mysterious teenage-looking vampire who becomes romantically involved with Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart.

Twilight is based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2005 novel and was directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg. In the story, Edward belongs to the Cullen family, a group of vampires who try to avoid hunting humans and instead live on animal blood.

Although Edward appears to be seventeen, the character is much older: he was changed into a vampire in 1918 and is described in the film’s character material as 108 years old. His supernatural abilities include exceptional speed, strength, and the ability to read minds—except Bella’s.
