The Pikachu who loses its electrical ability in Pokémon Pokopia is nicknamed Peakychu.
Peakychu is one of the special Pokémon Ditto encounters while restoring habitats. The character’s unusual condition gives a familiar Pokémon species a different role from its standard image as a dependable source of electricity.
Pokopia uses several named variations and character identities to give individual Pokémon distinctive stories. Other examples include Smearguru, a talented Smeargle; Mosslax, a Snorlax covered with moss and plants; and DJ Rotom, who possesses a stereo system.
The spelling matters because Peakychu is a character nickname, not a new species or a standard alternate form of Pikachu. It is also different from Pikachu’s usual name and from fan-created nicknames that are not part of the game’s story.
