The Network was a masked, secretive side project associated with Green Day. Its debut album, Money Money 2020, was released on September 30, 2003, through Adeline Records, the label connected with Billie Joe Armstrong. The group presented itself as a separate six-piece new-wave band, using aliases such as Fink, Van Gough and The Snoo.
For years, Green Day members publicly denied being involved, turning the project into an elaborate inside joke and mystery for fans. The music’s new-wave, synth-pop and post-punk influences also gave it a noticeably different identity from Green Day’s core punk-rock sound.
The project’s connection to Green Day was eventually acknowledged more openly.
