What new Madden NFL 27 mechanic lets a tight end or halfback slow a defender before running a route?

The story behind the answer

Madden NFL 27 introduces the Chip Block mechanic for tight ends and halfbacks.

A player assigned a chip can briefly slow a defender before releasing into a pass route. This gives the offense another way to influence the pass rush while still sending the blocker into the route concept.

The mechanic is especially useful with blocking tight ends or running backs releasing into short checkdowns. The outcome depends on the interaction between the blocker and defender: a successful chip can knock the defender off the rush path, while an unsuccessful one can distort the blocker’s route.

Chip Block is different from asking a player to stay in pass protection for the entire play. Its defining idea is a brief intervention followed by a release, adding another layer to protection and route design.
