Tolkien gives the language of the High Elves in The Lord of the Rings the name Quenya.
Quenya is one of Tolkien’s most fully developed constructed languages. Within his fictional history, it is associated especially with the Ñoldor and other Elves who lived in or were influenced by Valinor. Tolkien modeled parts of its sound and structure on languages such as Finnish, while creating its grammar and vocabulary himself.
Quenya appears in names, songs, formal speech, and phrases throughout Tolkien’s legendarium. The greeting “Elen síla lúmenn’ omentielvo” is one of its best-known examples, although Tolkien revised some linguistic details over time.
Sindarin is the main alternative readers often confuse with Quenya. Sindarin is another Elvish language, generally more prominent in the everyday speech of many Elves in Middle-earth. Adûnaic belongs to Númenor, and Khuzdul is the language of the Dwarves.
