McDonald’s named its 1990s space-themed character who traveled in a futuristic vehicle CosMc.
CosMc was a science-fiction-inspired McDonaldland character associated with space travel and an unusual vehicle. The character’s design extended McDonald’s practice of creating memorable figures around distinctive visual concepts, much as the Hamburglar used a comic thief identity and Captain Crook used pirate imagery.
CosMc appeared during a later phase of McDonald’s character marketing, when the company was still experimenting with new personalities and settings. He was not one of the original 1970s figures and should not be confused with the earlier McDonaldland cast that included Mayor McCheese and Grimace.
The unusual capitalization is part of the character’s canonical name. CosMc is also distinct from “McDonaldland,” which names the fictional setting rather than an individual character. His space motif made him one of the more unusual entries in the brand’s advertising history.
