The original Nintendo Switch supports a maximum TV output resolution of 1080p when docked.
The Switch’s dock connects the console to a television through HDMI. In docked mode, compatible games can output at up to 1920 by 1080 pixels, commonly called 1080p. The console itself has a 1280-by-720-pixel screen, so its maximum television output is higher than its built-in display resolution.
Nintendo designed the system to move between portable and television play rather than to compete primarily through maximum resolution. Games can use different resolutions and performance targets, and some titles render below 1080p depending on their graphics demands. The dock does not add a separate graphics processor; it provides power, charging, connectivity, and television output.
The Nintendo Switch OLED model retains the same maximum docked output of 1080p. The handheld-only Switch Lite cannot connect to a television and therefore does not provide docked TV output. A 4K television can display Switch content, but it does not make the console render games natively in 4K.
