The British television show Dragon's Den was adapted from the Japanese programme Money Tigers.
Money Tigers established the central concept: entrepreneurs make formal pitches to wealthy investors and negotiate for capital in return for equity. The format was created in Japan before being licensed for other countries.
The British version changed the presentation and branding for its domestic audience, using the word Dragons for its investors. It premiered on BBC Two in 2005 and became one of the best-known versions of the international format.
Shark Tank is not the original Japanese programme. It is the American adaptation, while versions in other countries have used titles including Dragons' Den, Lions' Den and Shark Tank.
