What is the United States title of the international television format adapted in Britain as Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

The United States title of the television format adapted in Britain as Dragon's Den is Shark Tank.

Shark Tank premiered in the United States in 2009 on ABC. Like Dragon's Den, it features entrepreneurs presenting businesses to wealthy investors, who decide whether to offer money in return for equity. The American programme uses “sharks” as its investor metaphor, whereas the British programme uses “dragons.”

The two programmes are adaptations of the same international format, whose origins lie in the Japanese show Money Tigers. They share the pitch, questioning and negotiation structure, although their panel members, editing, branding and business environment differ.

Shark Tank is not the name of the British show in America; it is the American version's own title. The British programme is known as Dragons' Den in several countries, while local adaptations often change both the title and the name used for the investors.
