What is the title of the Japanese business show that inspired BBC Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

BBC Dragon's Den was inspired by the Japanese business show Money Tigers.

Money Tigers is the original Japanese format on which Dragon's Den was based. The concept places entrepreneurs before a panel of wealthy businesspeople, who question their proposals and may offer investment in return for a stake in the business.

The format became internationally successful because its basic contest is easy to understand across cultures: an entrepreneur must value a company, defend a plan, and persuade investors that the opportunity deserves their money. The BBC adapted the concept for the United Kingdom, giving the investors the “Dragons” name.

A common mix-up is to identify Shark Tank as the source of the British programme. Shark Tank is the United States adaptation, not the original. Dragon's Den and Shark Tank therefore share a format family, but neither American title is the Japanese programme that started the chain of adaptations.
